Mark Lawrence Jr. been named to the 2020 VaSID All-State University Division Men's Golf team, in voting by the Virginia Sports Information Directors organization. Lawrence is a second team selection in 2020.
Lawrence, a redshirt senior from Richmond, Virginia, is honored for the third time, having been a first team selection in the 2017 and 2018 seasons. In 2019-20, he led the team in scoring average at 71.69 and was second in final round scoring average at 71.40. He led the team in rounds of par-or-better with 10. He had three top 20 finishes this past season, highlighted by a second-place finish at the UNCG/Grandover Collegiate in October. In the season's opening event, the VCU Invitational, the Richmond native birdied six consecutive holes, had eight birdies on the round, and tied a school record with a 29 on the back nine of the first round en route to tying a school record with a 65.
Liberty's Jonathan Yaunwas named the Player of the Year and JMU's Jeff Forbeswas named VaSID Coach of the Year. Hayden Millerof George Mason was named VaSID Rookie of the Year.
The first team features Yaun and Liberty teammate Kieran Vincent, Gustav Fransson of Old Dominion, George Heath of JMU and Ian Peng of VCU. The second team consists of Lawrence, Chris Ayers of ODU, Alexandre Fuchs of Liberty, Andrew Orischak of Virginia and Teagan Stephenson of Longwood.
