Virginia Tech men's golfer Connor Burgess will compete in the 120th U.S. Amateur. The seven-day event will be hosted by Bandon Duns Golf Resort in Bandon, Oregon.

This will mark the second appearance for the rising senior from Lynchburg, Virginia. He first qualified for the tournament in 2016 at Oakland Hills Country Club in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan.

Burgess had a 72.43 stroke average for the Hokies this past season. He had his best finish of the season in what turned out to be the final event before the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He finished tied for fifth at the Dorado Beach Collegiate in Dorado, Puerto Rico. He also registered an eighth-place finish at the Wolfpack Invitational in October. Burgess is currently sixth in all-time scoring average at Virginia Tech.

The 264 golfers will begin play Monday morning, August 10. Two courses, Bandon Dunes and Bandon Trails will be used for the two rounds of stroke play. Burgess will be in the final group at Bandon Dunes on Monday, starting at 3:04 p.m. PDT. He and playing partners Hunter Ostrom and Trevor Phillips will tee of at 10:51 a.m. PDT at Bandon Trails on Tuesday morning.

Following the two rounds of stroke play, the top 64 players will advance to match play, which begins Wednesday morning and will be played exclusively at Bandon Dunes. Golf Channel and Peacock will air coverage beginning with the start of match play on Wednesday.
