LEXINGTON, Va. – Senior pole vaulter Rachel Baxter and six other members of the Virginia Tech women's track and field team earned Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) honors on Thursday, as Baxter was named Women's Field Athlete of the Year.
VaSID honors are voted on by sports information directors in the state of Virginia. VaSID names 44 all-state teams in 23 sports each year, as well as an academic all-state squad and an all-sports champion in both the university and college divisions.
Baxter delivered a historic indoor season, winning the pole vault competition at the 2021 ACC Indoor Championships and finishing in fourth at the NCAA Championships. The ACC title marked the third consecutive season Baxter topped the conference, becoming the first woman to ever win the competition in three straight seasons.
Virginia Tech received the most selections to the All-State first team, tied with the University of Virginia with six.
