BLACKSBURG — Virginia Tech men's golfer Mark Lawrence Jr. has been selected to compete in the 2021 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship's Stillwater Regional on May 17-19, as announced Wednesday afternoon by the NCAA.
Lawrence is one of 45 individuals selected for six NCAA regional sites. There are 81 teams competing for the team title this season. Lawrence, Jr. is one of 10 individuals in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
Lawrence, Jr., a graduate student from Richmond, Virginia, leads the Hokies in stroke average at 71.63 and "Crunch Time" average at 72.00. Lawrence, Jr. had one top five, one additional top 10 and three additional top 20 finishes this season. His season-best finish was third place at the Oldfield Invitational in Okatie, South Carolina.
The Stillwater Regional will be played May 17-19 at Karsten Creek Golf Club and hosted by Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The Tom Fazio-designed course is a par 72, 7,449-yard layout.
This is the third consecutive NCAA regional appearance for Lawrence, Jr., as he competed in the Raleigh Regional (2018) and West Lafayette Regional (2017). Lawrence, Jr., did not compete in 2019 due to redshirting and 2020 due to the pandemic.
The top five teams and the top individual not on an advancing team will qualify for the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship finals. The finals this season will be played May 28-June 2 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
