BELIEVE THE HYPE
- Head coach Mike Young had high praise for forwards Justyn Mutts and David N'Guessan during the offseason. Young stated that Mutts was "the key" for last season's NCAA Tournament team, while N'Guessan's work ethic was praised and big things were expected from the sophomore.

NEW FACES
- Six Hokies made their Virginia Tech debuts on Tuesday night: Storm Murphy, Sean Pedulla, Jalen Haynes, Camden Johnson, Lynn Kidd and Ben Varga.
- Murphy – who is new to Tech, but no stranger to Young from their Wofford days – started for Tech.
SHOWTIME HOKIES
- Virginia Tech made sure fans inside Cassell Coliseum were entertained with several dazzling plays.
- An early transition dunk by Mutts sent the Cassell Guard into a frenzy, followed by a smooth step-back bucket from Storm Murphy for his first points as a Hokie.
APPROACHING 600
