LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Lindsey Butler and Antonio Lopez Segura paced the Hokies at the NCAA Southeast Regional meet on Friday. Both athletes finished in the top 25 of their races, earning All-Region honors in the process. Virginia Tech's cross country squads placed sixth on the women's side and 10th in the men's race.
Lopez Segura crossed the line in 15th for the Hokies, taking home All-Region honors for the first time in his career as one of the top 25 finishers in the Southeast. The junior from Barcelona ran the 10,000 meters in 29:48.3 and was followed by Ben Fleming in 30th.
In the women's race, Butler led the Hokies across the line with her 22nd place finish. The junior finished the 6k in 20:49.7 to earn All-Region honors for the first time in her career. Following Butler for Tech were Leigha Torino in 32nd and Ashley Smith in 37th.
Tech must now play a waiting game, as the at-large bids for teams and individuals to the NCAA Cross Country Championships in Tallahassee, Fla. will be announced at the NCAA selection show tomorrow, Nov. 13 at 5 p.m. ET.
