COLUMBUS, OHIO – The Hokies wrap up day two of competition at the Ohio State Invitational. It was another day of fast swimming for the men's and women's teams. The Hokies stayed consistent shaving off time in between the prelims and the finals. In addition, many of the newcomers are getting opportunities to compete against ranked opponents.
TECH WOMEN
Emma Atkinson placed second in the prelims of the 100 back with a time of 52.52, fast enough to get her in the Top 25. In the 100 back finals, teammate Caroline Bentz placed fifth (one spot behind Atkinson) with a time of 52.88, a Top 25 time. She also competed in the 100 fly, earning a time of 55.19 during prelims. Atkinson was the lead off of the 200 medley relay with Landon, Franz, and Shackelford. Her 50 back split was 25.17
Reka Gyorgy dropped starting strong in the 400 IM prelims. She swam a time of 4:15.08, earning her a place in the Top 25. After that, she shaved off two seconds in the finals, finishing the night with 4:13.11 and eighth place.
Karisa Franz showed speed during the 100 fly. She placed sixth in prelims swimming a 53.94. In the finals, she touched the wall at 53.42, placing eighth place. To kick off the finals, she was the third leg in the 200 medley relay with Atkinson, Landon, and Shackelford.
TECH MEN
Carles Coll Marti showed endurance in the 400 IM. During prelims, he swam 3:48.64. During the finals he placed third, swimming a 3:46.47, only two tenths of a second behind first. He broke into the Top 25, as well as swam the fourth fastest time in Hokie history. Filippo Dal Maso (3:50.06) and Keith Myburgh (3:51.80), also, made the Top 25 for the same event. Coll Marti was the second leg of the 200 medley relay with Manoff, Ivanov, and Ramadan.
Youssef Ramadan dominated in the 100 Fly. During prelims, he swam the fastest time in the country, 44.64, placing first. In the finals, he placed first, once again, with a time of 45.10. In the same event, Antani Ivanov, also, swam a Top 25 time with 46.04. Ramadan entered the Top 25, once again, after finishing fifth in the 100 back prelims with a time of 46.58. He was the last leg of the 200 medley relay with Manoff, Coll Marti, and Ivanov that placed fifth in the finals.
Luis Dominguez swam the eighth fastest time in Virginia Tech history in the 200 free prelims (1:35.62), then placed fourth in the finals, swimming the same time. That time was fast enough to earn his way into the Top 25.

The day 3 events will begin slightly earlier. The swimming prelims will begin at 8am and the diving platform competition will start at 11am. At approximately 4-5pm, the 1650 free will begin, followed by the swimming finals at 5:30pm.
There will be one relays (finals only), the 400 free relay. The individual events will be the 1650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, and 200 fly. On the boards, divers will compete from the platform.
