BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech Track & Field has announced the upcoming indoor schedule for the 2021-22 season. The Hokies and Rector Field House will host four home meets as well as the ACC Championships this season.
"We are excited to host four regular season indoor meets in 2022," Director of Track & Field Dave Cianelli said. "Each of these meets will feature high quality teams competing. In addition, we will be hosting the ACC Indoor Championships which are always the highlight of our indoor season."
The Hokies kick off the new year and the new season with two consecutive weeks of meets in Blacksburg, starting with the Virginia Tech Invitational January 14-15 followed by the Hokie Invitational on January 21-22.
Following the first two home meets, members of the pole vault squad head to Lexington, Va. for the VMI Winter Relays on January 28-29, marking the Hokies' first trip to Virginia Military Institute since 2020.
February begins with a split weekend, as Tech hosts the Doc Hale Virginia Tech Elite Meet on February 4-5, while members of the distance group travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. to compete in the JDL Camel City Invitational.
The weekend of February 11-12 features two away meets, as the Hokies split up to take on both the Tiger Paw Invitational in Clemson, S.C. and Liberty's Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational in Lynchburg, Va.
A final postseason tune-up comes the Hokies' way with the Virginia Tech Challenge on February 18-19, while members of the distance squads return to JDL Fast Track for the JDL DMR Invitational the same weekend.
Championship competition returns to Rector Field House this season, as the Hokies host the ACC Championships February 24-26. This year will mark the 12th time Virginia Tech has hosted the indoor installment of the ACC Championships, and the 8th since joining the conference.
The last time the conference meet came to Blacksburg was in 2019, when the men's team won its fifth indoor ACC title. The men will look to defend their ACC crown, having won last year in Clemson. The women's squad placed third at the last championships hosted by the Hokies and won their last ACC Championship indoors in 2020.
Indoor competition concludes March 11-12 when the Hokies travel to Birmingham, Ala. for the NCAA Indoor Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex. At last year's national meet in Fayetteville, Ark., 15 Hokies earned All-American status, and 11 athletes return to chase national honors again.
