BLACKSBURG, VA -- Virginia Tech's offense came alive on Wednesday night as Tech cruised to a dominant 93-60 win against Cornell.
The Hokies (7-3) had seven players score in double figures, led by Keve Aluma, who had 16 points. Darius Maddox tacked on a career-high 14 points from the bench and Nahiem Alleyne helped out with 13 points.
Tech excelled on the glass, grabbing 40 rebounds. David N'Guessan led the way with a career-high nine boards, followed by Justyn Mutts with eight.
Shooting .540 from the field, the Hokies turned in their second best shooting performance of the season. A season-high 12 3-point field goals made pushed Tech over the 50-percent mark (.522) from beyond the arc for the first time this season.
Virginia Tech's defense held Cornell to only 38.5 percent shooting from the field. The Big Red did not have much luck cleaning up their misses and were overall dominated on the glass, picking up 23 rebounds compared to Tech's 40.
How It Happened
After exchanging buckets throughout the first half, Tech went on a 20-3 run between 7:43 and 1:04 that blew the lead wide open. The Hokies then maintained that lead and entered halftime with a 47-31 advantage. Virginia Tech capitalized on eight Cornell turnovers in the period, turning them into 12 points on the other end of the floor.
Virginia Tech kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by David N'Guessan's layup, to grow the lead to 52-33 with 16:32 to go in the contest. The Hokies kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 93-60 win. Virginia Tech shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting eight shots from deep to score 24 of its 46 points.
