MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Virginia Tech fell to Middle Tennessee on the road on Friday evening, 6-1.
The Hokies' No. 17-ranked double duo of Jordan Chrysostom and Ryan Fishback suffered its first loss of the season on Court 1, setting the Blue Raiders up for the clinch on Court 3.
In singles, Virginia Tech struggled to get going in the front half of its lineup. No. 70 Ryan Fishback fell to No. 61 Stijn Slump on Court 1 in two sets, while Carlo Donato and Alvaro Saez-Royuela Ariza suffered setbacks in straight sets, as well.
Michael Shepheard picked up the lone point for Tech on Court 4, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3. After dropping his first set, Shepheard came into form in the second and carried it into the third for his fifth win of the season.
After the match was clinched for MTSU, Alex Ix and Alberto Orso dropped narrow decisions on Court 5 and Court 6.
Virginia Tech will return to action on Sunday in Nashville, Tenn. against Vanderbilt at noon.
