Fagan racks up 4 hits in Virginia Tech's 5-1 win over Michigan State

LEESBURG, Fla. --Sophomore Cameron Fagan racked up four hits to help lead the Virginia Tech Hokies past the Michigan State Spartans 5-1 on Saturday.

Freshman Emma Lemley (2-0) got the win for Virginia Tech (3-0). The right-hander went four shutout innings, giving up two hits, four walks and striking out seven. Sophomore Mackenzie Osborne also pitched well, going three innings, surrendering one run on two hits, walking none and striking out five.

In addition to her four hits, Fagan had an RBI to lead the Hokies. Sophomore Emma Ritter put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Junior Kelsey Bennett also contributed for Virginia Tech, putting together three hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double and a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hokies put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Virginia Tech put up two runs in the frame, highlighted by an RBI triple off the bat of Ritter.

The Hokies then held the Spartans scoreless before expanding their lead in the fourth inning. Virginia Tech scored three runs in the frame, led by a two-run single off the bat of senior Mackenzie Lawter, which brought the Hokies lead to 5-0. Michigan State put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Virginia Tech still took the 5-1 win.
