Hokies down No. 13 JMU 10-9 Wednesday night

The Virginia Tech lacrosse team got its first victory of 2022, and the first of the Kristen Skiera era with a 10-9 win at No. 13 JMU Wednesday evening.

Tech was led in scoring by Sophie Student who scored a hat trick, the first of her career, while Olivia Vergano, Sarah Lubnow and Paige Tyson each scored twice. 
 
In goal, Morgan Berman made eight saves and grabbed two ground balls.

How It Happened
JMU began the game with the first two goals, before Paige Tyson struck back with two of her own to close the first period.
 
A 3-0 Duke run gave the hosts a 6-4 lead by half.
 
But in the second half, Tech would score first and begin the comeback with a goal by Grace Nelson and get additional tallies from Vergano and Student.
 
After the Dukes scored to make it a 9-7 lead in the fourth, the Hokies would tie it up with Student's second and third of the night. Freshman midfielder Olivia Vergano netted the game winner with 2:02 on the clock.

» The win was the first for first year head coach Kristen Skiera at VT.
» It was Tech's first victory over JMU, in the 19th game of the series.
» Defender Lizzie Lohrer got her first start of the season in the game.
» Sophomore Emma Monte got her first minutes of the 2022 season.

What's next
