BLACKSBURG – On senior day in Rector Field House Tech track & field finished up a successful stretch of regular season meets with more event wins and personal bests ahead of next weekend's ACC Indoor Championships.
3-time ACC champion and 5-time All-American Rachel Baxter continued her undefeated season in the women's pole vault with another victory, clearing 4.45m (14' 7.25") for the win. Baxter will aim to win her fourth consecutive indoor pole vault ACC title this upcoming Friday.
Olympic silver medalist Sandi Morris and Volunteer Assistant Coach Bridget Williams led the way in the women's elite pole vault competition. Morris, who holds the fourth-best mark in the world this year, cleared 4.65m (15' 3") in route to the win, while Williams took second on attempts with a season best vault at the same height.
Freshman sprinters Torrence Walker and Layla Anderson swept the men's and women's 200m competitions on Saturday. Walker set a new personal best in the event, picking up the win in 21.20 seconds. His time ranks as No. 7 in the ACC this year and No. 8 all-time at Virginia Tech. Anderson finished as the top collegian in the women's 200m, picking up her first collegiate victory with a time of 24.40 seconds.
Tech hosts the 2022 ACC Indoor Championships beginning on Thursday, Feb. 24. Multi events will begin in the morning and distance medley relays will run in the evening as the Hokies chase team and individual conference titles.
