BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech picked up its first wins of the season in convincing fashion on Friday, racking up two 7-0 victories against Chattanooga and Hampton.
CHATTANOOGA
Tech clinched the doubles point with wins from Alberto Orso and Carlo Donato on Court 3, followed by Jordan Chrysostom and Ryan Fishback on Court 1.
Michael Shepheard picked up his first win of the season on Court 5, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 result. Alvaro Saez-Royuela Ariza added to Tech's tally with a two-set win of his own on Court 2. His third win in his last three matches came with a 6-2, 6-4 victory.
The clinching point came from Alberto Orso on Court 3, as he downed his opponent, 6-4, 6-3.
Virginia Tech registered a shutout with the help of three more wins that came to a ten-point tiebreaker. Fishback and Alex Ix both won their first sets, but were taken to three. Matt Harper rallied after dropping his first set on Court 6 and wrapped up the first match for the Hokies.

HAMPTON
In its second match, Tech continued to roll and picked up another doubles point with Ariza and Hugo Maia teaming up on Court 2. Due to a lack of available players, Hampton had to forfeit Court 3.
The Hokies won in straight sets across the board in singles, as Harper and Orso picked up quick wins. Fishback clinched the second triumph of the day for Virginia Tech on Court 1. Ix and Donato wrapped up the festivities on Court 4 and Court 2.Gallery: (2-4-2022) MTEN: Hampton Match
