AUTOMADDOX
- Darius Maddox is no stranger to game-winning shots. Less than two weeks ago at Miami, Maddox found the ball in his hands late in the game and nailed a go-ahead shot from beyond the arc with 12 seconds remaining.
- The buzzer-beater against Clemson and late dagger against Miami are just two highlights of a breakout campaign for the sophomore shooter. Maddox is shooting 53.7% from beyond the arc this season and has seven double-figure scoring performances.
MURPHY IN MARCH
- Storm Murphy lit it up from beyond the arc on Wednesday night, shooting 5-8 from deep, including 4-4 in the first half. His four first-half buckets came in consecutive fashion, as he scored 12 points in a row for Tech between 5:21 and 2:14 in the first half.
- As important as his first half shots were to give the Hokies some wiggle room, the graduate student hit another big 3-pointer with 19 seconds remaining in regulation to put Tech back on top.
- Murphy's five makes from deep tied the school record for 3-pointers made by a single player in an ACC Tournament game. Jarrell Eddie also made five against Miami in the first round of the 2014 ACC Tournament.
MORE THAN 40
- Wednesday night's game was Virginia Tech's first contest to go into overtime since the first round of the NCAA Tournament last season.
- The five-minute period started off with six of Keve Aluma's 19 points on the evening. Justyn Mutts split a pair of free throws late, which kept Tech in striking distance. Maddox wrapped up the night with the shot heard around The Bubble, prolonging Tech's tournament stay.
UP NEXT
- The winner between Virginia Tech and Notre Dame will advance to Friday's second semifinal at approximately 9:30 p.m. ET.
