Lemley's no-hitter leads No. 5 Virginia Tech over Longwood 5-0

FARMVILLE, Va. -- Freshman Emma Lemley turned in a great performance on Tuesday, tossing a no-hitter and striking out 13 to lead the No. 5 Virginia Tech Hokies over the Longwood Lancers 5-0. This is Lemley's first career no-hitter.

Lemley (9-1) added her ninth win of the season to her performance. The right-hander struck out 13 and walked two for Virginia Tech (22-3) on her way to the record books.

Junior Jayme Bailey led the way offensively for the Hokies, going 1-for-4 in the ballgame with a triple and three RBIs. Sophomore Emma Ritter had a good day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Sophomore Cameron Fagan also chipped in, going 1-for-3 for Virginia Tech with a triple and a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hokies took the lead for good in the fourth, scoring for the first time in the inning. Ritter came across to score the lone run of the inning for Virginia Tech and get them on the board.

The Hokies then tacked on runs in the fifth and seventh innings, with their biggest output coming in the seventh when they scored three times. Bailey's bases-clearing triple scored all three runs in the frame.
