Greene hits grand slam in No. 4/5 Virginia Tech's loss to No. 2/3 Florida State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- The No. 4/5 Virginia Tech Hokies fell to the No. 2/3 Florida State Seminoles 8-6 on Sunday but take the series win after defeating FSU in games one and two.

The Hokies battled back all game, tying the game up at 2-2 and then taking the lead at 6-3 in the top of the sixth. The Seminoles came back to score five runs in the bottom of the sixth to take the win. 

Greene went 1-for-1 with a pinch-hit grand to take the lead in the sixth. Senior Darby Trull continued her hot streak at the plate, going 1-for-1 with a double, two walks and an RBI. Junior Jayme Bailey also helped out for Virginia Tech, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hokies were trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Virginia Tech pushed across two runs in the frame, the big blow coming on an RBI double from Trull.

The Seminoles broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the sixth inning, when the Hokies got back on the scoreboard. Virginia Tech got a grand slam from Greene to score all four of their runs in the inning, which brought the Hokies lead to 6-3. The Hokies were unable to hold the lead, as Florida State scored five times over the remaining one inning to grab the 8-6 win.
