No. 31 Georgia Tech too much for Hokies

Box Score (PDF)

ATLANTA, Ga. – Virginia Tech women's tennis stumbled against No. 31 Georgia Tech on Friday.

Despite being on the sour end of a 7-0 result, the Hokies knocked on the door of an upset early. Rita Pinto and Elizabet Danailova teamed up on Court 1 for the Hokies in doubles and took the No. 5-ranked duo in the country down to a tiebreaker before falling. Katie Andreini and Annie Clark had the No. 34 pair on the ropes, as well, before dropping a 6-4 decision. Erika Cheng and Sabina Richtrova picked up a win, however, with a 6-2 result on Court 3.

Danailova and Semra Aksu gave the Yellow Jackets all they could handle in singles, as both players pushed their matches to three sets. Despite the fight, including Danailova pushing her ranked competition to a 10-point tiebreaker, Tech was unable to grab either match.

The Hokies will be back in action on Sunday at noon against Clemson.
