Hokies get Clemson rematch in first round of ACC Championships

ROME, Ga. – For the third time in as many trips to the ACC Women's Tennis Championship, Virginia Tech will take on Clemson in the first round. The No. 13 Hokies and No. 12 Tigers will face off at 12:30 p.m. in Rome, Ga. on Wednesday.

HOKIES
Virginia Tech lost its most recent outing against Clemson last Sunday in Clemson, S.C. Semra Aksu picked up the lone point for the Hokies in their 6-1 defeat, but the match was competitive from start to finish. In doubles, Annie Clark and Katie Andreini picked up a win, while Erika Cheng and Sabina Richtrova narrowly dropped their match on Court 3 to give Clemson a 1-0 advantage. In singles, Elizabet Danailova and Tamara Barad Itzhaki both won sets, but ultimately fell to their opponents. 

The Hokies have had recent success against Clemson in the ACC Tennis Championships, defeating the Tigers in both 2019 and 2021. In both matches, Tech was the lower seed and pulled off the upset. Last season, Elizabet Danailova registered the clinching point in a three-set thriller

Clemson's win against Tech last Sunday snapped a three-match skid for the Tigers. In the latest ITA rankings, the Tigers have one ranked singles player, No. 106 Cristina Mayorova, and one ranked doubles pair, No. 70 Samantha Buyckx and Ali DeSpain.
