ATHENS, Ga. and JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – On Friday of the biggest weekend during the outdoor regular season, Tech's athletes shone at both the Torrin Lawrence Memorial and the UNF Invitational.
In Jacksonville, the Hokie sprinters shone at Hodges Stadium in the 200m. Among a field of top professionals and collegians, Kahleje Tillmon crossed the line in 20.85 seconds to finish as the first collegiate athlete. Following just behind his teammate was Kennedy Harrison, whose time of 20.98 saw him finish as the No. 2 collegian in the event.
KJ Moore continued his strong outdoor season a weekend after setting a massive personal best, this time leaping 7.65m (25' 1.75") to earn the win in Georgia.
Two weekends after competing in the decathlon at Tennessee, Jake Spotswood earned himself a second-place finish in the pole vault competition at Georgia. His clearance of 5.12m (16' 9.5") moves him into a tie for the third-best vault in the ACC this season.
Rosie Cicmanec cleared a season's best in the high jump, going up and over 1.72m (5' 7.75") in Georgia. In the long jump, Hailey Huston Myles nearly matched her personal record with her impressive 5.76m (18' 10.75") mark.
Action resumes tomorrow in both meets with the throwers joining in at Arizona. Competition at the Torrin Lawrence Memorial gets underway at 11:45 AM, the UNF Invitational kicks off at noon, and the throwers compete beginning at 4 PM ET at the Desert Heat Classic.
