BLACKSBURG — The excitement and palpable hype surrounding the Virginia Tech basketball programs have Hokie Nation eagerly anticipating the upcoming 2022-23 season.
With the season opener for both teams less than three months away, the Northern Virginia Hokie Club and Virginia Tech Athletics have partnered to host a premier preseason event – Hokie Hoops Tipoff – on Wednesday, September 14 at Don Tito, a three floor plus rooftop restaurant located in Arlington, Virginia.
Mike Young, Tech head men's basketball coach, and Kenny Brooks, Tech head women's basketball coach, will headline the event, which will run 6-8 p.m. Both head coaches will participate in a Q&A session hosted by Zach Mackey beginning at 7 p.m.
This event is expected to sell out quickly, so don't miss your opportunity to be a part of an enjoyable evening. Tickets are on sale for $25 each online, $40 at the door. There will be a cash bar, food available for purchase, auction items and raffle prizes.

Under the direction of Coach Young, the Hokies captured their first-ever ACC tournament title last March. Hunter Cattoor, the ACC Tournament MVP, and Justyn Mutts, the 2022 ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, are two of six returners from last season's squad that finished 23-13 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth straight time. The Hokies have added nine newcomers for the upcoming season, including Grant Basile, a versatile forward that was a two-time All-Horizon League selection at Wright State.
Coach Brooks enters his seventh season in Blacksburg with arguably his most talented roster to date, and the nation is taking notice. Tech is ranked No. 14 in ESPN's Way-Too-Early Top 25, anchored by Elizabeth Kitley, who was the ACC Player of the Year and an AP All-America Third Team honoree last season. Georgia Amoore returns at point guard, as does Cayla King and Kayana Traylor on the wing. Perhaps no other team made as big of a splash in the transfer portal in the offseason than Brooks and the Hokies, who added Ashley Owusu, an All-America transfer from Maryland, and Boston College teammates Taylor Soule and Clara Ford.
