Soundbites: Postgame press conference (Boston College)

BLACKSBURG – Following its game Saturday night against Boston College, Virginia Tech football met with the media for a press conference. Read below for what head coach Brent Pry had to say.

Head coach Brent Pry

On the defense getting after the quarterback:

"Yeah, it was a point of emphasis for us this week. We brought some pressure early and created some more 1-on-1 situations with the front. Then we tried to mix it up – show pressure, play coverage. The guys got on edges. They did a nice job. We knew we had to get after the quarterback."

On defensive end TyJuan Garbutt:
"I'm very proud of him. He's been battling a minor injury, so his practice time has been limited. But he's a talented guy. He's instinctive and has good pass-rush abilities. We're going to need that from him moving forward."

On getting the win at home:
"It's awesome. If feels good to be 1-0 (at home). I just feel so happy for our players, the staff and the fans. You saw it, right? The students were there an hour before kickoff. The place was packed despite the weather. This was a good win for the entire program."

On putting the ODU game behind them and only having just five penalties:
"We took care of some things that were a thorn in our side last week. We protected the ball. We attacked the ball. We got a turnover to start the game and set the tone. Then we minimized penalties. There are probably a few that I'd like to still have back. But we made them earn it. We have to be that type of football team. We have to make people earn it and we have to make enough plays to score enough points."
