BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football met with media Wednesday after practice to discuss this week's matchup against North Carolina for a media availability. Read below to see what head coach Brent Pry and offensive lineman Johnny Jordan had to say.
Head coach Brent Pry
On how he thought the short week last week could have carried over into the game:
"We talked about it on Friday. Everybody felt pretty good. When you put the film on, they're reacting, they're driving all the way through the fourth quarter, so I don't think it was fatigue. You don't get as many reps fitting things in a short week. We're still learning as a defense, so that might have been a factor, but it was plays we have executed all week long."
On what he thinks the defense needs to improve on going into North Carolina:
"Honestly, we just didn't fit things very well. Not like we had been doing in practice. We kind of lost our minds out there. We missed some key reads. We tried to do things outside of our job. We need to see what we need to see as individuals. We need to trust in our teammates. We must tackle better. We had done that for three weeks. We didn't do a good job tackling. We left too much in the air. I think North Carolina has some good backs. They're athletic and they have a stable of them. I don't know if they have been as committed to running the ball as West Virginia has been. But they're certainly going to want to run the ball. Plus, their quarterback is a factor running the football."
Offensive lineman Johnny Jordan
On the weather challenge the Hokies face this weekend at North Carolina:
"We have been working it all week with the wet ball snaps. Just spraying the ball with water to make sure that we are prepared for all weather conditions."
On practice ahead of this week's game versus North Carolina:
"It's been good. I thought we had a really good Tuesday practice yesterday, and another good one today. I think we are in the right mentality heading into another ACC game."
