Tech ranked 24th in latest United Soccer Coaches poll

Kansas City, Mo.  - Following Virginia Tech's 2-1 come-from-behind victory against No. 3 North Carolina on Saturday night, the Virginia Tech women's soccer team made their season debut on the United Soccer Coaches top 25 national rankings at No. 24, the organization announced on Tuesday, Oct. 4.

The Hokies jumped to fourth place in the ACC standings following their first series win against North Carolina since 2011. Taylor Bryan and Tori Powell accounted for Tech's two goals against the Tar Heels, scoring the Hokies first top-five victory since 2013. Tori Powell's game-winning goal against the Tar Heels earned her the title of ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week.

Virginia Tech's win over North Carolina marked the team's third straight ACC victory this season, second win over a top 25 ranked team. Tech defeated #22 NC State 1-0 on Sept. 22 in Raleigh, N.C. The Hokies recorded their second straight conference shutout in an away match against Wake Forest winning 2-0.

In 2021, Virginia Tech spent two weeks on the United Soccer Coaches top 25 list climbing up to No. 17 after their 2-1 victory over Pitt. The Hokies look to continue their three game winning streak in the ACC when the team travels to Coral Gables, Fla. on Oct. 6.  The Hokies last defeated the Hurricanes at Thompson Field in 2021 with a 5-0 shutout. Thursday's game against Miami is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and will air live on the ACC Network.
