No. 24 Virginia Tech defeated by Clemson, 2-1

CLEMSON, S.C. – No. 24 Virginia Tech fell to Clemson, 2-1, on Sunday, Oct. 9, on the road at Historic Riggs Field.

Tech's record drops to 9-4-1 overall and 3-3 in ACC action. Clemson improves to 7-4-2 overall and 3-3 in the ACC.

How it Happened
Clemson broke the scoreless tie when Makenna Morris scored from outside the box in the sixth minute. The Tigers added a second goal from Hal Hershfelt in the 17th minute, kicking the ball into the far left corner.

Tech closed the gap to 2-1 when Taylor Price scored her seventh goal of the season in the 25th minute. The 2-1 score held to the finish, with zero goals in the second half.

"Disappointed with the result today," said head coach Chugger Adair. "I think we started off a little bit slow in the game and dug ourselves into a hole, forcing us to try to climb out. We came out good in the second half, putting pressure on Clemson but we were unable to get the equalizer."

Game Notes

  • Taylor Price leads the Hokies in goals with seven.
  • Price remains the top scoring freshman in the ACC, earning 17 points.
