Hokies prepare for banner night on Sunday

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech and William & Mary are set to renew their Commonwealth rivalry in Cassell Coliseum on Sunday evening for the first time in 17 seasons.
 Before Sunday's game, the Hokies will unveil their championship banner commemorating the program's 2022 ACC Tournament title. Fans will be able to pick up a special ACC title poster and pose for photos with the trophy on the concourse between sections 3 and 5.

  • Noah Collier, a 6-foot-8 forward, is averaging a double-double through two games with 12.5 points and 10 rebounds. Ben Wight, William & Mary's preseason All-CAA selection, is averaging 10 points per game.
  • In the CAA's preseason poll, William & Mary was slated to finish eighth.
  • Dane Fischer is in his fourth season at the helm of the Green and Gold. In his first year as head coach, he led William & Mary to a 21-win season while the Tribe's Nathan Knight took home CAA Player of the Year honors.

  • Sixth-year senior forward Justyn Mutts made his season debut Thursday after sitting out Monday's season opener due to an NCAA-mandated one-game suspension.
  • The Millville, New Jersey native delivered his 17th career double-double (16 points, 11 rebounds) in the 78-52 win over Lehigh. He also added five assists and two steals.

  • An emphasis in Coach Young's system is valuing the basketball, thus limiting turnovers.
  • Through two games, the Hokies are averaging 7.5 turnovers per game, which ranks 13th in the country and first in the ACC.


BY THE NUMBERS

  • Justyn Mutts recorded the 17th double-doubleof his career Thursday night against the Mountain Hawks, dropping in 16 points and 11 rebounds.
  • Tech opens the season with six games in 13 days, capped by a three-game stretch at the Shriners Children's Charleston Classic.
  • The Hokies only committed seven foulsThursday vs. Lehigh – the second-fewest in the Mike Young era. Through two games, Tech has 17, which is the lowest total since the Hokies joined the ACC.
