BLACKSBURG – A Big Monday matchup in front of a sold-out Cassell Coliseum could be just what Virginia Tech needs to get out of its current rut. The Hokies will have that opportunity at 7 p.m. on Monday against Duke with Dave O'Brien, Cory Alexander and Andraya Carter on the call for ESPN, while Zach Mackey and Mike Burnop provide coverage for the Virginia Tech Sports Network.

Fans are encouraged to wear black to Monday's game with Black Out t-shirts made in conjunction with the Undergraduate Student Senate available at HokieShops. Fan-favorite Red Panda returns to Cassell to perform at halftime.

SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS

  • Duke bounced back from a loss at Clemson with a 68-66 victory over No. 17 Miami on Saturday afternoon. Standout freshman Kyle Filipowski led the way for the Blue Devils with his third double-double in as many games.
  • Filipowski, who has claimed the ACC Rookie of the Week honor five times this season, is one of three players in the league averaging 15.0+ points and 9.0+ rebounds this season.
  • Under first-year head coach Jon Scheyer, Duke reps the ACC's second-best scoring defense, allowing 63.5 points per game.
  • The Blue Devils ranks fourth in the country in rebounding margin (+8.8).

The Series

  • Tech and Duke are set to meet for the first time since the Hokies' 82-67 win in the 2022 ACC title game in Brooklyn, N.Y.
  • Hunter Cattoor erupted for a career-high 31 points in the championship game en route to MVP honors of the tournament.
  • The Hokies trail in the all-time series, 51-12. However, they are 4-1 in the last five meetings in Blacksburg.
  • Tech has recorded a 9-13 ledger at home in the series, including a 6-7 mark in Cassell Coliseum.
  • If Duke is not ranked in Monday's AP Poll, it will be the first time since Jan. 2, 1978 that Tech will face an unranked Blue Devil squad.

HOKIE HEADLINES

  • Despite turning in one of its best defensive efforts on the season, Tech was edged 51-50 at ACC leader Clemson, Saturday night.
  • Grant Basile led the Hokies in scoring and rebounding with 13 points and eight rebounds. It was his third straight game scoring double figures and fourth out of the last five.
  • MJ Collins continues to be a bright spot off the bench. He connected on a pair of threes for the second straight game.

BIG MONDAY IN CASSELL

  • Tech returns home after a season-long, three-game road swing that included a pair of games at nationally-ranked opponents (Virginia and Clemson).
  • Smithfield's Bricks for Bacon promotion returns beginning Monday night. If the opposing team misses two free throws in a row, then every person in attendance will receive a $10 Smithfield bacon coupon.

UP NEXT

  • The Hokies will face Syracuse on Saturday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. inside Cassell Coliseum.
