Tech's No. 8 women's track and field team look to keep building momentum towards the championship season with three pole vault women nationally ranked within the top 15. The Hokies also have three shot put and three weight throw women within the top five in the ACC.
Julia Fixsen is ranked first in the women's pole vault after clearing 14'7.25" (4.45m) in the Hokies season-opener. Sophomore Journey Gurley is tied for fifth in the nation with a personal-best height of 14' 2.5"(4.33m), freshman Kenna Stimmel is 11th with a height of 13'11.25" (4.25m).
Essence Henderson, Katrin Brzyszkowska, and Katie Seyfang are scheduled to compete in the women's shot put on Saturday, Jan. 28. Henderson and Seyfang opened the season by finishing first and second at the Virginia Tech Invitational. Brzyszkowska placed second at the Hokie Invitational putting 53'7" (16.33m). The women are currently ranked third, fourth, and fifth in the ACC.
Weight throwers Rebecca Mammel and Sara Killinen are the only ACC female athletes to have thrown past 72'1" (22.0m) this season. Mammel and Killinen lead the conference at 75'4" (22.96m) and 72'9 (22.17m), respectively.
The Tech men were recently ranked second in the Southeast Region with five men nationally ranked within the top 25. Triple jumper Chauncey Chambers jumped a season-best 52'11.5" (16.14m) at the Hokie Invitational last weekend.
Sprinters Judson Lincoln IV and Kennedy Harrison lead the ACC in the men's 400m running sub-47 at the Hokie Invitational. Lincoln IV clocked a personal-best time of 46.50, followed by Harrison in second (46.74).
Cole Beck and Ali Diaby are scheduled to compete in the men's 200m for the first time this season. Beck won the 200m dash at the 2021 ACC Indoor Championships clocking in at 20.95. Sophomore Ali Diaby is off to a great start this season setting three personal-best times in the first two meets of the season. Diaby finished third in the men's 60m with a time of 6.66 ranking 21st in the NCAA, Beck is 17th (6.64).
