BLACKSBURG – At the halftime break, Grant Basile wasn't even a top-five scorer on his team after missing much of the first 20 minutes in foul trouble. By the time all 40 were in the books, however, it was the Wright State transfer's big day that led Tech to its best scoring output of the ACC season and a 93-87 win.

BASILE'S BIG DAY? NO! BASILE'S BIG WEEK

  • Basile became the first Virginia Tech player since Bryant Matthews in 2003 to have back-to-back 30+ point games. Against Morgan State on Dec. 1, 2003, Matthews put up 36 points, followed by a 37-point performance on Dec. 4 against Old Dominion.
  • In these last two games, Basile has shot 25-40 (62.5%) from the field, including 7-17 (41.2%) from beyond the arc.
  • Basile was 11-15 from the floor in the second half, including a run of seven made shots in a row.

90-PIECE

  • Tech's 93 points were the most by the program in an ACC game since scoring 95 against Miami on Feb. 19, 2020. In that game, however, the game went to three overtimes. The Hokies only had 77 points in regulation.
  • It was the most points against an ACC opponent since the Hokies had 99 points against Wake Forest in the ACC Tournament on March 8, 2017.
  • Virginia Tech is 7-1 under Mike Young when it scores 90+ points.

NOT TOO SHABBY, J-MUTTY

  • Complementing Basile's 33 points, Justyn Mutts flirted with the program's third triple-double and the second of his career with 19 points, nine assists and eight boards.
  • After the game, Basile jokingly apologized in his post-game interview for stealing a late rebound from Mutts. Had he grabbed a couple more rebounds or another assist, Mutts would've had his seventh double-double of the year.
  • Eight of Mutts' nine assists were dimes to Basile.
