AKRON, Ohio – Virginia Tech tied its program record for most goals scored in a game in its 23-4 victory over Akron on Saturday afternoon.
The Hokies had the opportunity to tie the program mark in goals scored due to Sarah Gresham's record day in the circle, as she recorded 20 draw controls. In records dating back to 2006, the previous program high was 15 by
Four Virginia Tech players had a multi-goal game, led by Paige Tyson and Olivia Vergano's four goals apiece. Kayla Frank tallied three, while Kayla Rinaldi added two. In total, 14 Tech players scored.
Three players – Carolina Little, Emma Christensen and Gresham -- scored their first career goal for the Hokies. Gracie Kennedy and Jacelyn Lazore scored their first of the season, as well.
Kennedy led the Hokies in assists with a career-high four. In total, Tech assisted on 18 of its 23 goals, which is the most since recording 18 against Radford on March 3, 2019.
Tech controlled the game from start to finish - scoring 12 goals in the first quarter, which are the most since the NCAA adopted quarters before the 2022 season. The Hokies went into the halftime break leading 14-3, which was the highest first-half goal tally since netting 15 against Radford on March 2, 2022.
Up next, the Hokies will travel to Emmitsburg, Md. to face Mount St. Mary's on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
