SCOUTING THE FIGHTING IRISH

  • Notre Dame enters the ACC Tournament coming off an 87-64 loss to Clemson on the road last Saturday. The Fighting Irish are 2-8 in their last 10 games, although six of their eight losses have been by single-digits.
  • Graduate players Nate Laszewski (14.0) and Ryan Cormac (12.1) pace Notre Dame in scoring, while being the only two members of the Fighting Irish to start all 31 games this season.
  • Laszewski and Grant Basile had a battle for the ages in their meeting earlier this season that saw Tech pick up the 93-87 result, as both players scored 33 points apiece.

The Series

  • Tech enters Tuesday's tilt with Notre Dame on a five-game winning streak in the series. It's the longest active winning streak for the Hokies against an ACC foe.
  • The all-time series is all square at nine wins apiece.
  • Tech has a 1-1 record against the Irish in the ACC tournament following its 87-80 triumph in the quarterfinals last season.
  • Notre Dame won the other matchup, 71-65, in the 2018 ACC tournament (also in Brooklyn).
  • The Hokies' last loss to ND came on March 7, 2020.
  • In Tech's last three wins against the Irish, the Hokies are averaging 86.3 ppg.

HOKIE HEADLINES

  • Grant Basile has scored double figures in 15 straight games. He has broken the 20-point mark in six of the last 12 contests. Over the last 12 games, Basile is averaging 20.7 ppg.
  • Hunter Cattoor is first in the league in 3FG% at 42.5% (71-167). He's had at least three treys in five of his last six games.
  • Sean Pedulla recorded his sixth game of at least 20 points this season, putting up a career-high 25 points on 8 of 12 shooting vs. FSU.
  • Tech tied its season high of 16 threes, knocking down 16 of 34 (47.1%) against FSU. VT also hit 16 triples against William & Mary.

TOURNEY TIME

  • The Hokies enter as the No. 11 seed for the second time in their ACC tournament history.
  • Ironically, the other time Tech was the 11th seed came in 2020 when the tournament was also in Greensboro.
  • The Hokies are 0-1 as the No. 11 seed.
  • Tech is 14-17 all-time in its 31 conference tournament games.
  • The Hokies are 4-4 in first round games with their last appearance coming in 2020.
  • Tech became just the second team (Duke, 2017) to win four games in four days en route to the 2022 ACC title. No team has ever won five games in five days in ACC tournament history.

UP NEXT

  • The winner of Tuesday's game will face sixth-seeded NC State at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
