NEWS & NOTES

THE SERIES

  • This will be the first matchup between Virginia Tech and Clemson, as it's the Tigers' inaugural season.

A WIN WOULD...

  • Be Virginia Tech's fourth consecutive win.
  • Be Virginia Tech's third consecutive ACC win, a feat the program has never achieved.
  • Be Virginia Tech's second ranked win of the season.
  • Secure a first-round bye for the Hokies in the 2023 ACC Women's Lacrosse Championship, presented by Ally.

LAST TIME OUT

  • The Hokies are coming off an 8-4 win over Old Dominion on Tuesday. Hannah Mardiney, Paige Tyson and Olivia Vergano scored two goals apiece, while freshmen Caroline Little and Ella Rishko added goals, as well.
  • Tech's defense stood strong, tying its season-low for goals allowed. By allowing only four goals by the Monarchs, the Hokies have held multiple opponents to four-or-fewer goals in the same season for the first time since 2020.
  • Jocelyn Torres had nine saves in Tuesday's game, marking the sixth time that she's recorded 9+ saves this season.
  • Virginia Tech's pressure resulted in 10 caused turnovers. Overall, Old Dominion had 23 turnovers as a team.

WHAT'S AT STAKE

  • Virginia Tech (8-6, 3-4) and Clemson (10-5, 2-5) sit next to each other in the ACC standings in sixth and seventh place, respectively.
  • The top six seeds in the 2023 ACC Women's Lacrosse Championship, presented by Ally receive a first-round bye, so a win by Tech would wrap up that advantage with one league game remaining.
