Hokies conclude NCAA Outdoor Championships with six All-Americans

AUSTIN, Texas – The Virginia Tech women's track and field team wrapped up the 2023 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, June 10 with six women obtaining All-America honors. 

Senior Essence Henderson closed out the meet for the Hokies throwing a season-best distance 184' 8" (56.28m) on her third attempt of the day. Henderson's mark qualified her for finals placing ninth and earning second team All-America honors. She ends her collegiate career as a four-time All-American. 
 


Cierra Pyles achieved second team All-America status placing 15th in the women's triple jump as she made her first NCAA Outdoor Championship appearance. Pyles jumped her best mark of the day (43' 5.25" (13.24m)) in the first round of competition. 

The women's team tied Alabama and Ole Miss for 25th place scoring 11 points in pole vault. Julia Fixsen won her first national championship title clearing a height of 14' 7.25" (4.45m). Freshman Kenna Stimmel  placed eighth clearing 14' 1.25" (4.30m). 
 


Vaulters Journey Gurley and Hayley Horvath were awarded *second team All-America placing 13th and 15th, respectively.
