GREENSBORO, N.C. – Vaulter Julia Fixsen and mid-distance runner Nick Plant of Virginia Tech track and field have been awarded ACC Outdoor track and field honors, announced the ACC on Thursday.
Julia Fixsen earned ACC Women's Outdoor Field Performer of the Year claiming both the NCAA and ACC titles in pole vault. Fixsen tied her outdoor personal-best of 14' 7/.25" (4.45m) at the NCAA Championships clearing the bar on her first attempt. Her first place performance also earned her the title of USTFCCCA Southeast Region Women's Field Performer of the Year. She won the ACC Championships clearing a height of 14' 4.5" (4.38m).
Freshman Nick Plant has been named the Men's ACC Outdoor Freshman of the Year finishing 12th at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the 800m. Plant qualified for nationals finishing first in the 800m quarterfinals at the East Prelims clocking a time of 1:49.21. He won the ACC Championships clocking in at 1:47.41. Plant ran a personal-best time of 1:47.18 in the prelims, ranking 17th in the nation during the outdoor season.
At the end of the indoor season, Freshman Kenna Stimmel earned ACC Women's Indoor Freshman of the Year. Director Dave Cianelli was awarded both the men's and women's indoor coach of the year titles for a second consecutive year.
