Virginia Tech falls 3-2 to No. 20 Northwestern

BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech women's soccer hosted No. 20 Northwestern on Sunday and dropped a 3-2 decision at Thompson Field.

The Hokies fell to 3-2-3, while the Wildcats improved to 6-0-2.

"I am disappointed with the overall result today," said head coach Chugger Adair. "I think we played well, we played hard, and we tried to grind out a very difficult game. I thought the women did a number of things very well but I'm a little upset that we came up short. It was a fun non-conference game that is only going to make us better as we head into the next phase of our season, ACC play.

"Northwestern is a good team with several talented players, but it was a good back and forth match. I am pleased with the efforts from the ladies but a little disappointed in the final results."

How it Happened
Virginia Tech's Taylor Price scored the first goal of the match in 26th minute giving the Hokies an early lead 1-0. The excitement was shortly lived as the Wildcats scored their first goal less than one minute later (27).

After a quick restart, the Wildcats found the back of the net for a second time in the 28th minute, leading 2-1 at the end of the first half.

Taylor Price put the Hokies back in the game recording a brace in the 52nd minute with a header into the net from a corner kick by Eden Skyers.

Northwestern would not let the goal go unanswered scoring the game winning goal in the 54th minute of the match by Ella Hase.
