BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football met with the local media following its practice on Wednesday. Head coach Brent Pry spoke first, accompanied by assistant head coach J.C. Price and defensive end C.J. McCray.
Read below to see what they had to say.
Head Coach Brent Pry
On the run defense against Rutgers:
"They committed to the run game and they're doing a nice job with it between the quarterback. They got a nice tail back. They got a big offensive line. But you know, we didn't execute great in the fourth quarter. We didn't hold edges. Didn't tackle well. I think we get run down a little bit. We got to keep investing in a healthy rotation, playing more guys so that we can be the defense we need to be in the fourth quarter."
Defensive Line Coach J.C. Price
On improving team run defense:
"Just gotta do more. We gotta fit it better. We gotta get more knockback and more disruption from the D-line. It all works together. What I tell the D-line all the time is nobody in the stands knows if they did their job or not. Because there's still two more levels of the defense. So, everybody has to be held accountable. All 11 people have to be in the right spot. It's not just one group out there that's not stopping the run, it's all of us. We're continuing to preach that we gotta be in the right spots and get there with a bad attitude."
Defensive Lineman C.J. McCray
On Price's Coaching Style:
"Favorite part of his coach is style, he's real straight up. He's gonna shoot you straight, and that's always good. Like he critiques you, and he's gonna make sure that you know what you can improve on, and he's gonna get the most out of you for sure."
