BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech heads into its first home game of 2023 with the Hokies leading Old Dominion 16-7 going into halftime.
With an exciting first half underway, the first score of the season was a safety on special teams after Old Dominion hiked the ball over the punter. Continuing with firsts, the first touchdown of the season was a 20-yard pass up the middle from Grant Wells to wide receiver Jaylin Lane with an impressive catch.
Both Wells and Kyron Drones have been on the field today, with Drones showcasing his athleticism in short-yardage situations. Wells has continued his success as a starter, throwing his second touchdown to wide receiver Ali Jennings for his first ever Virginia Tech touchdown catching a 10-yard pass to finish up the second quarter against his former team.
With another impressive showing, the Hokies defense hasn't disappointed compiling two sacks and six TFLs. Defensive lineman Antwaun Powell-Ryland completed his first sack at Virginia Tech and sophomore defensive lineman Keyshawn Burgos made his first overall career sack.
The Monarchs will get the ball to start the second half.
