BLACKSBURG – Following its season-opening win, Virginia Tech football met with the media for a postgame press conference Saturday.

Read below for some highlights of what was said.

Head coach Brent Pry

Opening statement:

"I do want to say this first. Our fans are fantastic here. I know we keep saying that, but don't get tired of hearing it, because it's super important to what we're trying to do here. I appreciate them so much. The administration. The fan base. The lettermen. The high school coaches. There are a lot of people pouring into this program right now to give us a chance to be a better football team."

On bringing in the three transfer receivers and if he thought they would be this talented:
"I think, the one advantage you have in the transfer portal, is that you have guys that have done it at the college level. They may not be in the ACC, but they've done it against older guys. You get a little bit better evaluation than you do off of a high school player. We certainly knew those guys would be productive for us and they've done that in the spring and preseason camp."

Quarterback Grant Wells

On having more proven options to throw to this year and the chunk plays tonight:

"Yeah, I'm excited about our receiving room. They were pretty excited to get into Lane Stadium and they were in my ear all game trying to throw the ball more. Anytime you have that happen, it means it's a pretty good time."

On zero sacks tonight and the offensive line playing well:
"They played incredible. Anytime you have no sacks and no real pressures, that's only going to build their confidence. I think they needed some confidence going into this game. That's just them being young. They had a lot of questions in that room that they needed answered and I think they answered it and played well. So, I'm excited to watch them play with confidence now."
