First Half Lookback: Virginia Tech vs. Wake Forest

Live Stats

BLACKSBURG – In the heart of Blacksburg, the Virginia Tech football team hosts formidable Wake Forest in the electric ambiance of Lane Stadium for this year's Homecoming game. The Hokies are leading the Demon Deacons 17-10 as they head into the second half.

The Hokies' impenetrable defense has held Wake Forest to a mere 86 yards of offense, with both linebacker Jayden McDonald and cornerback Dorian Strong registering pass breakups in the first quarter. Defensive lineman Jorden McDonald showcased his strength, recording his first career sack, bringing down Demon Deacons' quarterback Michael Kern and forcing a one-yard loss. Cornerback Derrick Canteen reached a significant milestone with his first career interception at Virginia Tech.

To ignite the second quarter, linebacker Keli Lawson delivered a crucial strip-sack on Kern, forcing a fumble that was swiftly recovered by defensive lineman Antwaun Powell-Ryland. This sequence set up the offense for quarterback Kyron Drones to unleash a 19-yard pass down the middle, connecting with wide receiver Stephen Gosnell. The momentum continued to surge on this drive, with Drones following up by completing a 20-yard pass to tight end Benji Gosnell on the very next play. Running back Bhayshul Tuten capped off the drive with a 3-yard touchdown, marking the game's opening score and his third rushing touchdown of the season. Tuten is the first No. 25 recipient to score a touchdown since wide receiver Tre Turner in 2021.

Following a spectacular 33-yard reception by wide receiver Da'Quan Felton, kicker John Love confidently drilled a 37-yard field goal, notching the second score of the game. The offense continued to electrify the crowd as Drones connected on a thrilling 75-yard pass to wide receiver Jaylin Lane, securing the Hokies' second touchdown of the game.
