BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech football met with the local media for its weekly press conference. Brent Pry and Chris Marve took the podium to review the team's open week and the matchup versus Syracuse on Thursday night.

Read below to see what they had to say.

Head Coach Brent Pry

On playing on a Thursday night:
"I think people got to know Virginia Tech on Thursday nights, maybe before, anyway else. I know once I left the program and was coaching other places, I always tuned in on Thursday nights. Very excited about a chance to watch the Hokies in that time slot. So, it's about us being 1-0, but everybody's excited about a Thursday night game here in Lane."

On the defense generating more pressure:
"I think also the investment we made in the off-season to be better there. It's just a culmination of a lot of hard work from the defensive line. I think also from Coach J.C. Price and Coach Chris Marve and then on top of it, we brought in a martial arts guy multiple times. We've studied other teams that are doing a nice job, pressuring the quarterback to make sure that we're doing what we can. And I think the investment's paying off. It's got to continue to down this back half of the season. We've got to be able to pressure quarterbacks."

Defensive Coordinator Chris Marve

On the defensive performance against Wake Forest:
"I thought we attacked, man, we were really aggressive. We finished when we had opportunities around the quarterback for the most part. Those plays are going to come as long as you continue to work, continue to push. I mean, sacks are hard to get, really difficult to get. I thought our kids embraced the game plan, and they attacked with a really strong mindset. I'd be remiss if I didn't mention our fans. I thought they had a significant impact on that game. I think our fans can have a significant impact on this game as well."
