D’Amour announces 2024 schedule for Virginia Tech softball program

BLACKSBURG - Virginia Tech softball and Head Coach Pete D'Amour announced the Hokies' 2024 schedule Monday afternoon. The Hokies are slated to play 52 games during the 2024 season with 20 at home at Tech Softball Park, including four ACC home weekends.

"We're beyond excited for this challenging slate against many formidable opponents," D'Amour said about the schedule. "We're looking forward to playing in three amazing away venues to open the season to test our squad. Hopefully the energy and experience we gain early will prepare us for the daunting and vastly improved ACC schedule."

Tech will open the season, February 9-11 at the Tiger Invite, hosted by Auburn University. They will play five games, including two matchups with the Tigers who were a NCAA Regional team a season ago.

The Hokies will then travel west the next weekend and play five games in the Littlewood Classic, hosted by Arizona State and the Grand Canyon University Classic from February 16-18.

In the final tournament before conference play, the Hokies will participate in the Georgia Classic. They will compete in five games, including two contests against Georgia. The Hokies will have a rematch with the Bulldogs, who ended the Hokies' 2023 season in the Athens Regional. During the tournament, Tech will also play NRV neighbors Radford, twice and Dartmouth.

Other non-conference matchups throughout the season include Elon University on February 21st, the Hokies' first home game of the season, and trips to Eastern Kentucky (March 6) and UNC Charlotte (March 13). The Hokies have double headers with Longwood (March 19), Wofford (April 2), and Robert Morris (May 4). The Hokies will also face Maryland Eastern Shore (March 20) and will have two matchups against Liberty (April 3 at TSP & May 1 in Lynchburg).

The marquee non-conference games will be played in Tuscaloosa against Alabama March 22-23. The last time the Hokies took on the Tide in 2022, Tech dropped two tight games by a score of 1-0, and 2-0 respectively.

ACC play will begin on Friday, March 1st against Notre Dame at TSP. The Hokies will then hit the road to take on Louisville March 8-10, before returning home to take on Pittsburgh March 15-17. Tech will travel to Durham, to face Duke, followed by a series with NC State the next weekend. Tech will then be home consecutive weekends against Boston College and Georgia Tech.

There will be two midweek Commonwealth Clashes matchups against the University of Virginia. Tech will play in Charlottesville on April 16 and the second contest will take place on April 23rd at TSP.

The 2024 ACC Championship is set to be hosted by Duke at Duke Softball Stadium May 8-11.
