The Virginia Tech football team completed the first half of its game against Tulane on the road, leading the Green Wave 17-10 as it heads into the second half at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium. Both teams will continue to fight for the Military Bowl title in this closely contested game.
Kyron Drones continues to make influential plays for the offense, showcasing his versatility as a quarterback and impressive running ability. Drones picked up 69 yards, leading the team in rushing yards, and put the first touchdown on the scoreboard for Virginia Tech with an 11-yard rush. Running back Bhayshul Tuten follows with 47 rushing yards, his longest rush being 18 yards, and he also hauled in a 15-yard pass from Drones. With eight seconds left in the second quarter, tight end Harrison Saint-Germain caught a one-yard pass from Drones to break the 10-10 tie.
Tech's special teams have made game-changing plays, with kicker John Love scoring the first points for the Hokies by knocking in a 35-yard field goal. Wide receiver Da'Wain Lofton recovered a fumble off a 51-yard punt from Peter Moore, who wears number 25, leading to the Hokies' first touchdown. Virginia Tech also recovered a squib kick heading into the second half.
In addition, the Hokies' defense has been shutting down the Tulane offense, starting the first quarter by holding quarterback Kai Horton to just 62 yards of offense. To start the second quarter, defensive lineman Pheldarius Payne forced a fumble at the 4-yard line, with defensive lineman Antwaun Powell-Ryland recovering it. Powell-Ryland also made a tackle for a loss of 14 yards, breaking up a double pass. Payne and star Keonta Jenkins join Powell-Ryland, both registering tackles for loss of their own. Linebacker Alan Tisdale has been leading the charge in tackles, amassing four total tackles, all of which were solo.
