Grizzard dominant for Virginia Tech in shutout win against Radford

ATHENS, Ga. --Sophomore Cassie Grizzard was dealing on Friday, tossing a three-hit shutout to lead the No. 21 Virginia Tech Hokies past the Radford Highlanders 8-0.

Grizzard (4-0) went the distance for Virginia Tech (9-2-1), giving up three hits, walking four and striking out seven.

At the plate, the Hokies were paced by junior Cori McMillan, who went 2-for-3 on the day with two home runs, a walk and four RBI. Junior Bre Peck compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Freshman Emily LeGette also helped out for Virginia Tech, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hokies took the lead for good in the second, scoring for the first time in the inning. McMillan put Virginia Tech on the board with a leadoff home run off freshman Morgan Cooper.

The Hokies then tacked on runs in the third, fourth, and sixth innings, with their biggest output coming in the third when they scored five times. The big hit in that inning was a three-run home run off the bat of McMillan.
