Hokies hammer eight homers during 20-2 blitz of Marist

BLACKSBURG, Va. --Sophomore Henry Cooke and freshman Jake Slade each hit two home runs to help lead the Virginia Tech Hokies past the Marist Red Foxes 20-2 on Tuesday.

Freshman Madden Clement (1-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Virginia Tech (12-3). The southpaw went 2.2 innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing four walks and striking out two. Freshman Ryan Buckler also pitched well, going two shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking one and striking out one.

Cooke added a double and four RBIs to his two homer day and junior Carson DeMartini supplemented his own two big flies with a walk and four RBI for the Hokies. Slade also helped out for Virginia Tech, putting together two hits in two trips to the plate while adding two home runs and four RBI.


HOW IT HAPPENED

The Hokies scored in six different innings on the way to the win. Virginia Tech broke a 0-0 tie and took the lead for good at 2-0 in the first inning The Hokies hit three home runs in the inning on the way to scoring their seven runs.
