RALEIGH, NC --Sophomore Lyndsey Grein was dealing on Sunday, throwing a one-hit shutout to lead the No. 15/13 Virginia Tech Hokies over the NC State Wolfpack 12-0.
Grein (8-3) went the distance for Virginia Tech (28-9-1), giving up one hit, walking two and striking out six.
At the plate, the Hokies were led by junior Cori McMillan, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a triple, a home run, a walk and three RBI. Senior Emma Ritter furnished a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI. Junior Bre Peck also helped out for Virginia Tech, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a home run, a walk and four RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Hokies took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Virginia Tech's offense started clicking and put up eight runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Ritter and a two-run triple from McMillan.
The Hokies also added runs in the second and third innings on the way to the 12-0 victory.
