INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - On Thursday, May 16 the NCAA announced the DI men's and women's outdoor track and field championship declarations for the 2024 preliminary meets.
Virginia Tech declared 26 athletes will compete at the East Preliminary Round in Lexington, Ky. from May 22 - 25. The four-day qualifying meet will be hosted by the University of Kentucky at the UK Track & Field Complex. Buy Tickets, Schedule of Events
The top 48 declared student-athletes are accepted into the preliminary competitions for each individual event. The top 24 declared relay teams will be accepted into the preliminary competitions for each relay event. Combined events do not attend the preliminary meets. For combined events (Heptathlon and Decathlon), the top 24 declared student-athletes in each event based on their position on the national descending-order list will be accepted directly into the championships.
Athletes with the top 12 times/marks and the best 12 relay teams at both the East and West Preliminary Round sites will qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.
Decathlete Sean Murphy has earned an automatic qualify spot into the NCAA Championships scoring 7532 points at the ACC Outdoor Championships.
