INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. — From June 15-23, Virginia Tech swimming and diving athletes competed in the U.S. Olympic Trials at Lucas Oil Stadium.
AJ Pouch was stellar in the breaststroke throughout the meet. In the 200 breaststroke, Pouch finished third overall with a time of 2:09.05. Pouch also competed in the 100 breaststroke where he finished ninth overall with a time of 59.81.
Carl Bloebaum made the 200 butterfly final at the trials. He finished 16th overall with a time of 2:02.05. Bloebaum also competed in the 100 butterfly where he finished 46th overall with a time of 53.67. Will Hayon joined him in the event and finished 31st with a time of 53.25.
Landon Gentry also competed in the 200 butterfly. He finished 32nd overall with a time of 2:00.12.
In the freestyle events, the Hokies showed their speed. Emily Claesson finished 36th overall in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.73. Brendan Whitfield finished 32nd overall in the 100 freestyle with a time of 49.51 and in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.57.
Ethan Maloney competed in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. In the 100, he finished 22nd overall with a time of 1:01.09. In the 200, he finished 35th overall with a time of 2:14.82.
