CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Virginia Tech’s Cooper Wenzel was named ACC Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.

Wenzel, a senior from Fresno, Calif., recorded four saves in a shutout victory at Syracuse last Friday. The clean sheet was Wenzel’s fourth through six matches this season.

The 6-2 shot-stopper that transferred to Virginia Tech from CSUN ahead of the 2024 season leads the ACC in goals against average, having conceded only three goals (.500 GAA) all year. Wenzel’s GAA is tied for ninth nationally and tied for second among keepers with a minimum of six games played.

Virginia Tech’s four clean sheets are the most since it recorded five (through 17 games) in the 2021 season.

The Hokies are off to their best start in program history through six games, sitting at 5-0-1 on the season. Tech takes off to SMU on Friday for their second ACC match of the season.
