Virginia Tech baseball posts fall 2024 schedule

Hokies to play at VCU (Oct. 6) and against Liberty (Oct. 16) in addition to their annual Fall World Series home stand

BLACKSBURG – With summer beginning to cool down in the New River Valley, the Virginia Tech baseball team revealed on Friday its fall 2024 schedule, featuring two in-state matchups against Division I programs and dates for the Hokies’ annual intrasquad Fall World Series.

Virginia Tech will kick off fall play on Sunday, Oct. 6, when the Hokies travel to Richmond to square off against VCU at The Diamond (home of the Richmond Flying Squirrels). Information regarding start time and ticketing will be released at a later date.

Ten days after butting heads with the Rams, Virginia Tech will entertain Liberty on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at English Field at Atlantic Union Bank Park. First pitch between the Hokies and the Flames is scheduled for 3 p.m. – ballpark entry is free to any and all fans while seating will be general admission.

Among its many fall traditions, Virginia Tech will host its annual Fall World Series at English Field on three dates during the week of Monday, Oct. 21. Tentative intrasquad game dates between Maroon and Orange are scheduled for Monday (Oct. 21), Wednesday (Oct. 23) and Friday (Oct. 25) while game times will be released at a later date.

Ballpark entry to Virginia Tech’s Fall World Series games is again free while seating will be general admission.

Fall exhibition games may vary in length and format from traditional nine-inning contests at the discretion of coaching staffs.

Virginia Tech has achieved three consecutive seasons of 30 wins or more under head coach John Szefc, who has led the Hokies to the combined 107-59 record since the beginning of the 2022 season. Tech’s 107-win total since 2022 marks the program’s best three-year performance during its ACC tenure.

VCU went 38-23 during the 2024 season, winning the Atlantic 10 postseason championship and advancing to the NCAA Greenville Regional, where the Rams knocked off No. 19 Wake Forest during the opening round. This offseason, VCU elevated former assistant coach Sean Thompson to the role of the Rams’ head coach, replacing Bradley LeCroy, who took the same post at Liberty.

Virginia Tech last faced VCU in non-exhibition play during the 2021 regular season. Likewise, the Hokies have won four of their last six regular season meetings against Liberty, dating back to the 2022 season.
