BLACKSBURG – Virginia Tech cornerback Dante Lovett is slated to compete in primetime while wearing No. 25 on Thursday night. The Hokies will host the Eagles for their seventh meeting on a Thursday, and it will be Lovett’s first time donning the historic jersey. Tech hosts Boston College on Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. ET at Lane Stadium.
The talented sophomore is the first player in Tech’s secondary to earn the honor of wearing No. 25. Lovett started his career as a Hokie in 2023, playing in all 13 games, and carried that momentum into this season, appearing in all six games. The Crofton, Maryland, product also registered his first career start on the road against then-No. 7 Miami.
On the season thus far, Lovett has amassed nine tackles and two passes defended. Against Boston College on Thursday night, he will look to add to his career totals (19 tackles, 5 passes defended and 0.5 tackles for loss).
The weekly tradition of wearing No. 25 started in 2016 and has continued each season. Each week, a member of the special teams wears the number to recognize how influential Frank Beamer was to Tech football both as a player and a coach. The jersey number was retired in 2002.
